Time for Green voice in South Tyneside

02.08.2006

South Tyneside's council is desperate for an environmental champion, says local Green Party candidate Chris Haine.

Chris, who has been selected by the Green Party to stand in the forthcoming by-election for the Cleadon and East Boldon ward, is eager to learn what local people think are the real issues affecting them. With South Tyneside council planning to plough a dual carriageway through East Boldon's greenbelt, the need for a strong voice for the environment in South Tyneside has never been greater.

Chris said,

"Uniquely, the Green Party believes that local people know what is best for the area where they live, and what is the best environment for their children to grow up in. Only common sense voices for sustainability can bring that.

"The environmental revolution has already started in mainland Europe, and local people there are already seeing the benefits of sustainable policies. Having worked across Europe, I've seen the real positive impact for change that environmental parties have had across the continent.

"None of the other parties give a voice to the future, to ensuring that we protect the interests of future generations. It's time that Cleadon and East Boldon was given that voice."
